L.A. Bites: Island Flavors Caribbean Cuisine

There's no need for a passport to take a sensorial trip to the Caribbean—we just go to Sherman Oaks. That's where this truck puffs out Cajun-tinged smoke while serving up traditional Haitian specialities, including spicy griot pork, creole shrimp, and whole grilled red snapper. The powerful tastes and smells of the dishes are even better with with OGKS, but take note: If you think peering into a fish's eyes will take you to a place that's too deep to explore, take a pass on that dish and just relax. The stimulating effects of the whole meal will undoubtedly lead to smoke-session conversations about the lure of actual island life.

Don't miss:

Citrus-glazed griot pork, crispy plantains, Creole salmon, or the spicy cabbage slaw.

Where to find it:

islandflavors2.com or 818-477-8076. It's the rare food truck with regular hours: 11:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. on weekdays; until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; closed Sunday.
